5, 6, 7, 8 and a Tree by Addie

More embroidery for the stitchalong

I don't really like this one, but I'm coping.  Part of it might be how wonky the borders are--it'll straighten out when I block it.
A cheater square, but I just love it.

A pretty little piece of lace embellished with french knots.

Addie's tree.  Isn't it great.  I love the trunk!

Addie's Grid and My Day Four

Turns out Addie really likes embroideryand felt she needed a basket of her own

She also wasn't satisfied with her old piece of scrap fabric while I had a fancy little grid.  She now has a grid of her own...
Not too bad!  from top left to right: A leaf, two candy bars, start of a tree, and a sunshine.

For Earth Day ( I've taken a few embroidery days off) last week I created this square...

I did sort of a little fill in seed stitch that was fun.  It was a sunny day here so I was feeling hopeful and used bright, clean colors for our little planet.

New Stitchalong!

Amy at inspireco. is starting up another stitchalong!  This time we're talkin' 100-1 inch squares embellished with freestyle embroidery, lace, buttons, and other odds n' ends--Wow!

The theme this round is Counting Your Blessings.  Head on over to the new counting my blessingss project blog to get more info and sign-up.

I think I might even get Addie in on this.  Maybe not 100 squares, but a grid and a project might be a good starter project for her.

Taking Time & Day Three

Ice Cream Sundae

This was my first time at satin stitch.  I'm not entirely happy with this square~this stitchalong is a great exercise in "just do it" for me.  Usually I am so worried about things being perfect that I don't even start projects.  One-1" block a day, free-style is forcing me to accept what I've done.

Turns out someone has been very eager to get her hands on these supplies...

Usually I share my craft stuff with Addie, so she kept asking when she could start something too.  I kept putting her off with excuses about finding the right supplies, etc.  Finally I just grabbed an old piece of fabric, threaded an embroidery needle and told her to go for it...

And she did.  And you know what?  It was fun for me and for her.  I think her favorite tool is the air-erase marker, but she went for it with the floss too.  I don't know why I kept stalling her.  It didn't take that long to get supplies together for her, she had fun doing it (no TV on too!), and I now have a little stitchalong partner.

Okay, the back is a bit messed up, but it's a start and, really, you don't see the back anyway.

Days One and Two

I started my embroidery sampler squares!  I'm doing 42 squares instead of 39 because that's my age.  My embroidery grid is made up of 1" squares, 6" x 7".

I made these sweet little roses with a new stitch called a double lazy daisy variation.

It was a little difficult to do at first, but once I got the hang of it I liked it.

Day Two I couldn't resist a cherry blossom branch made with french knots.

To join the stitchalong head over to 39 Squares or you can wait for Amy's upcoming stitchalong.  Right now you can vote on the theme~looks like "Count Your Blessings" is winning right now.
