ICAD Update

Late on posting, but I have been very good about actually doing an

Index Card A Day (ICAD)

Other than the top left card, these were all made with acrylics and white gelli or sharpie paint pen.

The top left card was made with driftwood boat sail scraps.

AND...

an acrylic background=45 oz. butt-kicker #35!!!

 

Clockwise, starting with  top left corner--1: dragonfly done with black pitt pen.  2: "5 books I last read" prompt.  Done with watercolor.  3: "Happy 4th" in watercolor using a technique from Tammy Garcia's "Watercolor Playground" online class. 4: "Monochrome" prompt.  Done in watercolor.

Food Color Fun

Addie and I experimented with food color painting for ICAD last week.

 

Cheap-o, grocery store food coloring drops.

Neon colors gave us the best results.

 

Prompt: Peace

 

I like to call this one "Peace, Dude"

I sprayed the index card with water first and then added swaths of food coloring with a paintbrush.

The peace sign was painted on after the card had dried a bit.

I love the way all the colors mix!

I have a tendency to forget about that middle stripe...Addie reminded me.

This was made by pressing a damp, blank card to another painted card

No prompt, just scraps from this week's fun glued onto a food color background.

Prompt: Junk Mail

 Side One

Materials: I miniaturized a junk mail envelope and added a collage of items from even more junk .  The  mini "ICAD" is made with watercolors and a sharpie

Side Two

Upside down was not planned, but nobody's perfect :)

 Prompt: Summer

We've been attacked by mosquitoes lately.

I seriously doubt that I'm even close to graphically correct on the actual body of a mosquito--the stripes probably aren't realistic either, but who knows.

Prompt: Polka Dots

Materials: embossing powder, sharpie, gelli pen

ANDDDDDD....

it's also  45 oz. butt-kicker Number 42!

yes, creative butt-kicking can be that easy!

 At this point I left prompts and started having fun experimenting with my art supplies.

The Gesso Group

Materials: gesso, paper towel,chalk ink, acrylic paint, lace, rubber stamps

Gesso stamping fun.

The round stamp on the left side was made by stamping INTO gesso already spread on the page.

The swirls on the left were made by stamping WITH gesso applied to the stamp.

I love the light, ethereal effect you get with gesso.

Same materials as above, but I wanted to see if the gesso stamping works with text and intricate stamps--it does!

The Modeling Paste Group
(and 45 oz. butt-kicker #6)

Here they are in their infancy, before experimentation.

 Watercolor background applied after modeling paste dried, Luminarte' irridescent powders applied to the modeling paste, sharpie used to outline the floral shapes and frame the card.

I don't really like the greens, but it was good to see how the colors worked together and to use the Luminarte'.

Spray alcohol inks were applied after the modeling paste dried.  I really like the way the ink colored the paste a bit, so I left it that way and outlined the floral shapes with white gelli pen.

Watercolor background applied after modeling paste dried.  Luminarte' powder applied with a waterbrush to the paste.  I finished it with  ink dots and a frame in black.

I hated the way this card turned out when I watercolored it and then even more after applying the luminarte', but then I continued to "work" the card and add the ink and now it's my favorite.

 The dots did it for me!

Item #31: Cut something out my Silhouette

I cut those 1/2" Number twos out with the Silhouette I won from Someday Crafts.

I have to tell you that the Silhouette is amazing.
I used to have a non-computer program Cricut and I wouldn't even bother getting it out most of the time.  There was NO WAY it would cut a 1/2" two.
The Silhouette sets its own blade depth, speed and pressure and it is AWESOME!

Outshining ICAD Box

I'm having mega fun with ICAD 2013!

Where to put all those precious little masterpieces?

I was thinking on that problem as I started to break down a popsicle box and it HIT me...

This Outshine box seemed to be about the right size to store a stack of index cards.

It would need some adjustments.

Measuring, thinking, gluing, and cutting would be involved.

Could I do it?

 

YES!! I did it!

I made ICAD storage with my Popsicle box!

Ignore the current embellishment--it needs more, but the box hasn't "spoken" to me and told me what that need is yet.

 

Wide enough for a stack of 61

 

Don't they just look right at home in

 there?!

 

To keep things real (and proof)...

I didn't cover the bottom--hee hee hee!

 

Now I'm off to make another--We really like these bars, so I have many more boxes.

Creamy Coconut and Lime rule in my opinion.

 

I'll post some pictures on the how's and measurements tomorrow.
