Getting that chip out of the bucket
stamp*stamp*stamp
...just felt like saying it three times.
Addie and I did camp out in the craft room this last week and
we even kicked a little 45 oz. bucket (#25) by creating some stamps
I got out a little Speedball kit that I picked up at a local art store months ago and sketched a teeny trailer to stampify.
The kit includes a carving tool with two blades and a carving block.
It also includes instructions, but I skipped that.
The results...
I like my teeny trailer better than the big one, but the teeny one is wheel-free (it's a flier?).
The bird is legless because the carving block was too small to accommodate them and I don't know that I was willing to attempt skinny legs anyhow.
Like wheels, legs can easily be drawn in.
Addie made this sweet little flower and is wanting to go buy some more carving material already.

Summer Sailing
Summers here mean spending time with Addie in my our craft room
Creating bright and colorful papers with watercolors for sails
arranging, drilling, and gluing driftwood
and creating the most wonderful sailboats!
This fabulous idea is from an Alisa Burke tutorial that I completely recommend.
It's easy to do with a child or young teen.
I adore the way my boats are straightforward and standard issue, while Addie's are much more whimsical and straight from her own imagination.
I'm smiling even as I type underneath this picture :)
BTW...this little bit of craftiness is a butt-kicker from that 45 oz. bucket--number 15 to be exact

Little Rocks Like Painting Too!
Big Rocks get all the attention.
They have bigger pallets, but that didn't stop me.
You just need a teeny paint brush.

Wouldn't it be GREAT!?
I'm participating in Daisy Yellow's
At first I thought it was for the whole year and knew I simply wasn't capable, but 61 days I can do.
And Daisy Yellow is pretty dang cool about being relaxed and having fun.
Follow the prompts, or not.
Follow the themes, or not.
Do all the days, or not.
Start on time, or not.
It's those "or nots" that make art fun
So, without further ado...
I went with the daily prompt of wallpaper.
First thing that came into my head was butterflies.
Wouldn't it be totally cool if walls were made of butterflies?!
BTW, this was also bucket list butt-kicker numero #7!
I used butterfly graphics from the graphics fairy--(thank you!)
Printed them onto cardstock and them cut them all out.
I then prepped the background with butterfly-like watercolors.
Folded the wings of the butterflies on the dotted line, added hot glue to the middle,
And then randomly glued them to the index card.
It took 4 sheets of butterflies to cover my 3 x 5 index card!
I added Stickles sparkle glitter to the butterflies to bring out the color.
Do this BEFORE gluing to the background--it's easier.
I know from experience!

My Totally Mod Fleet
Airplanes, that its.
Styrofoam covered with scrapbook paper and NUMBER 4 on the BUCKET LIST!
I started with a super duper cheap-o airplane from Oriental Trading Co.
They're left-over prizes from a swim meet that I just couldn't toss.
I adhered the paper with tacky glue, but then found that double-sided tape works just as well and is WAY less messy!

What does this fleet do?
They flew itty bitty birthday banners!
Just design your banner out of lightweight cardstock
Tape a piece of craft wire to the back to make your paper wave (easy to bend and stays that way)
Attach your banner with some more craft wire by gluing the wire into the Styrofoam
And have fun because these are fun make and fun to fly!

Mandalas in the rain and an iPhone
drumroll please....
It's rainy and my camera wasn't working (gotta check those batteries), so these iPhone pics aren't great, but they'll do for the bucket list :)
These are the books from the bookshelf ...
Lots of Mandalas inside...
These didn't appear to be like the home-drawn mandalas I've seen.
Some were definitely more doable than others.
I decided to start with a Tibetan open lotus design.
It's fairly simple, I like the design and it's easily traced.
Tracing was the only chance at success, so I got out my Saral tracing paper, watercolor paper, tape and a sharp pencil.
I traced.
I then went over the tracing marks with a Sharpie, followed by a good erasing.
Did you know that Saral marks erase?
Watercolor time :)
I forgot how much fun coloring in a pre-made design is!
This one is a Celtic Bird--there was no explanation with it, so I know no more than that.
(color choice by Addie who started tracing from the book too)
Then I went rogue and traced a Tibetan design onto some watercolor paper that I had previously sprayed with distress inks.
I traced in a lighter colored Saral (still erased) and then went over that with white chalk paint.
This was fun!
If you're having trouble getting motivated, can't think of what to draw, but want to go play with your supplies, then try coloring a mandala.
Have fun with the process.

Don't Eat the Paste posted some great mandala designs that are free to print!
They are really cool.
Probably going to add one of them to my next bucket list.

Butt-Kicker #18 has been kicked!
Let me explain...
I keep seeing and thinking of art techniques and little projects I'd like to do, but I don't do them. I gather supplies, I pin, I lay them out, but nothing happens. So I've filled a 45 oz. bucket with these ideas and I'm going to empty that bucket by doing them. You can see the bucket list by clicking on the tab at the top. I'll post and link each time I finish (successfully, or not--it's about the process).
When it's empty, I'll refill it.
So here's #18--Block O' Wood Birdhouse
Got out my tools, my rusty findings from the airport, my junk box, glue, and a block o' wood and went to work making my usual mess.
The only problem I ran into was the roof. I had a block of wood, but no triangle, so I had to have my dad cut one from his scraps for me.
He kept trying to point me to one of his nice scraps and for measurements, but I insisted that it should be old wood and that it had to be random.
Hot glue, gorilla glue, and nails were used to adhere items.
I just LOVE it!
